Home of flamingos and tree-climbing lions
Lake Manyara
Tucked between the towering cliffs of the Great Rift Valley and the shimmering waters of its namesake lake, Lake Manyara National Park is a small but incredibly diverse gem. Often used as a first stop on a northern safari, it surprises many visitors with its rich landscapes and vibrant wildlife.
The park is a study in contrasts — from groundwater forests filled with monkeys and baboons to open grassy plains where wildebeest and zebra roam. The lake itself is a magnet for birdlife, with thousands of flamingos painting the shoreline pink during certain seasons.
Lake Manyara is also famous for its tree-climbing lions, an unusual behavior rarely seen elsewhere. While sightings aren’t guaranteed, the chance to spot these cats lounging in the branches adds a unique thrill to any game drive.
With its scenic beauty, varied habitats, and quieter feel, Lake Manyara offers a gentle yet rewarding introduction to Tanzania’s wild side — perfect for travelers who enjoy both wildlife and peaceful, picturesque surroundings.
